MY STORY

My benches are crafted from the reclaimed pews of old Scottish churches.

Each piece is designed and handmade in my small workshop in Stirling, Scotland.

I work with architectural salvage specialists to source beautiful old pews from churches across Scotland ensuring each piece I create is unique. The nature of wood, and especially reclaimed wood, is that it has its own character including knot and nail holes, dents and shakes (natural splits in the wood which come about through temperature change and the natural aging process). I utilise these characteristics to craft a unique bench where the surface undulates to reflect the individual nature of the pew.

After the timber has been carefully selected, it is: shaped, any holes filled, sanded smooth, assembled with the legs (which are then removed for you to refit later), the underside painted and finally, the seat is hard wax oiled to create a beautiful finish revealing the grain of the wood. I make these benches to order. The bench in the pictures has a scallop carved into it, this was a special order and is not reflected in the price on my Etsy site. I'm Bob. I live and work in Scotland. I have been making furniture for over 20 years. Bob's dog is not for sale :-)
